In May 1998, Eclat the band from Marseille, France, comes back from a short tour
in Japan with a liverecording in his luggage. A few months later, to celebrate the
release of the album "Marseille-Tokyo", Eclat invites the japanese band Wappa Gappa
to give a double concert in Marseille. The day before, "Marseille-Tokyo" is officially
released at Centre Musical Hyperion during a big party. Music and "apéritif" !
The french TV channel M6 films the event. A nice article in the newspaperLa Provence is
also published with great pictures of the japanese musicians who then bough a large
number of copies ! The venue is packed, the audience enthousiastic and several local
prog musicians are present. The atmosphere is festive and stimulating. The idea of
organizing a big prog festival, Prog'Sud, is born !
The goals of the festival are then clearly defined:
* promote the regional bands
* develop the cultural national and international exchanges
* become a yearly progressive rock event
* introduce talented bands to a large public
"Within four years, Prog'Sud has become a major rendez-vous on the world circuit of
progressive rock. (B. Gueffier/Musea). It is an eclectic festival. Various styles of
progressive rock are showcased by talented bands that deserve more recognition.
Since the 2003 edition, 3 evenings are proposed in order to accommodate more bands
and satisfy a larger audience. A festive atmosphere lives in the venue !
Starting from the 2005 edition, the festival will be organized by Prog'Sud Organisation.
The organizing trio of volunteers is composed of Eliane Armansa (teacher), Alain Chiarazzo
(musician) and Cathy Clavin (lawyer), to whom several friends offer valuable help onsite.
All warmly invite every music lover to come and share this happy and convivial event !
