                                                                  Italy

MANGALA VALLIS was started in 1998 by Gigi Cavalli Cocchi (formerly drummer with avant-garde

band CSI and Italian rockstar Ligabue, CCLR and Moongarden) finding in long time friends Mirco Consolini

(guitars) and Enzo Cattini (keyboards) natural partners to start up a new project taking inspiration from the

great prog bands of the 70ies to be developed into new, more personal environments. In 2002 their first

album “The Book of Dreams” was released, a concept based on the life and books of French writer Jules Verne. Vocal parts were performed by Vic Fraja, Matteo Setti ( Gringoire in musical production “Notre Dame de Paris”) and Bernardo Lanzetti (previously with “ Acqua Fragile” and “ P.F.M.”).

The album gets great welcome from the prog world allowing the band to start touring Europe.

“Lycanthrope”, Mangala Vallis second album, that was released in November 2005. David Jackson, sax from

Van Der Graaf Generator is guest on the recordings. “Lycanthrope” has been performed live, in Italy,

Holland, France,Belgium and USA.

Seven years after "Licanthrope", all is set for the release of "Microsolco", the highly anticipated new

album of new prog band Mangala Vallis.

A long span of time, during which many things have happened such as line-up changes, with the exit from the

band of Bernardo Lanzetti (vocals) and Riccardo Sgavetti (bass player), and the arrival of Roberto Tiranti, extraordinarily gifted singer and bassist and with a rich pedigree (New Trolls, Labyrinth, Ian Paice and

Glenn Hughes).

"Microsolco" (microgroove) is a concept album that launches a virtual bridge with the previous album.

Here too the concept is based on the dizzying pace of present times and the will to return to a more natural lifestyle.

The songs tell of what will happen on 21/12/2012, inspired by the much-discussed theory of the end of the world. In fact in"Microsolco" is told the "end of a certain kind of world", that takes place when a hacker creates a virus that will destroy the digital memory of the entire planet.

This will force all mankind to a reflect deeply and revive ways of living that has been dormant for a long time.

Essentially it will bring humanity closer to the essence of man and mother earth.
You might call it an album of "fantasy-new age-prog" concept.

Musically speaking, however, the typical soundscapes and style of MangalaVallis are all there, but there's room for more "rock" episodes.

The versatile voice of Tiranti interprets it wonderfully, in an album that continues the stylistic groove pattern set with the first two albums, and that will intensely please lovers of good prog rock.
